AN ORGANISATION based in Llandrindod Wells, which provides therapeutic support to children and young people in Carmarthenshire and Powys who have suffered adversity and trauma, has been awarded charitable status.

Therapists at The Windfall Centre (based in Ithon Road) have expertise in the field of children’s and young people’s mental health, welfare and development, and provide help with a range of specific challenges such as communication difficulties, trauma, loss and bereavement, with support for children in care and young parents and infants coping with attachment difficulties.

The charitable status award means that Windfall can now seek funding to provide additional services to support the emotional health of children, young people and families.

A recent launch event held to celebrate the newly granted status was attended by a wide range of Windfall’s client groups including foster carers, social workers, school welfare officers and children’s support organisations, as well as Windfall’s play and filial therapy staff and trustees. Local MP Chris Davies was also in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Windfall Senior Play and Filial Therapy Practitioner Gabrielle Eisele said: “We are so pleased to have achieved charitable status as this can help us reach vulnerable and struggling families for whom funding is not available.”

In addition to play and filial therapy, Windfall also offers schools-based play therapy, consultancy, training, supervision and conferences. Their play therapists are members of the British Association of Play Therapists and have completed training at Masters level.

Windfall was started as a private business six years ago by two play therapists who recognised the urgent need for specialist services to support the emotional health of children and young people. The business now provides five fully qualified therapists and two trainee therapists.

Play therapy is an acknowledged intervention for children who have suffered trauma and adversity, as well as those going through difficult life events.
