A FUNDRAISING event featuring the manager of the Welsh football team was described as a ‘tremendous success’ by Carmarthenshire County Council Chairman Peter Hughes Griffiths.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths organised An Evening with Chris Coleman at St Peter’s Civic Hall in Carmarthen on Friday night (Jan 22) along with the Carmarthen Stars football club.

After Chris Coleman was introduced to the sell-out crowd, the Wales Team Manager was interviewed by Ian Gwyn Hughes – head of Public Affairs with the FAW – regarding preparation for the European Championships in France in June and reflecting on the points gained to secure a place in that competition.

During the break in the proceedings he signed autographs and joined individuals and groups in various photographic opportunities.

This was followed by an audience question and answer session and at the end of the evening he received a standing ovation.

Commenting on the evening Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths said: “It was such a pleasure for us all to be in his company and his willingness to meet and greet so many people must be admired. This was a very special occasion in the long history of football in Carmarthen.”

The event raised £1,830 for the Chairman’s charities Wales Talking Books and Tenovus West Wales Cancer Care, and £500 for the Carmarthen Stars.
