MPs conclude evidence gathering on broadcasting in Wales

THE WELSH Affairs Committee is set to wrap up its final evidence session as part of the ongoing ‘Broadcasting in Wales’ inquiry, featuring testimonies from the Welsh Language Commissioner and Minister of State, the Right Honourable Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP.

During the first panel, Members of Parliament (MPs) will hear from Welsh Language Commissioner Efa Gruffudd Jones and Lowri Williams, the Strategic Director at the Welsh Language Commission. Previous sessions with streaming giants and sporting organizations emphasized the importance of ensuring the availability of Welsh language content for viewers. The committee is likely to delve into topics such as Welsh language television and radio, as well as the impact of social media on the use of the Welsh language.

Moving to the second panel, the Right Honourable Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP, Minister of State for Media, Tourism, and Creative Industries, will face questions from the committee. This segment will provide MPs with an opportunity to reflect on the evidence presented throughout the inquiry, covering a wide range of topics from the evolving nature of broadcasting to sports broadcasting rights, and from local radio to streaming services.
