ABERAERON eagerly awaited the visit of Caldicott Town in the Welsh Cup and were confident of achieving an upset.

Aberaeron started slowly, as is their custom this season, and Caldicott had the upper hand in the first 20 minutes with their lively right winger impressing.

Caldicott took the lead when a free kick from the left was not cleared, allowing Caldicott to fire home.

This seemed to spark the home side to react positively, creating numerous chances before equalising through Dan James, who was becoming more and more influential in the game.

Aberaeron were unfortunate not to take the lead before half time, with the Caldicott goalkeeper making good saves and the defence clearing well.

Aberaeron began the second half on the back foot and allowed Caldicott to control the game, although chances were limited for both teams.

Aberaeron needlessly lost possession in midfield and Caldicott took full advantage and scored their second.

Their tails were now up and Aberaeron were under pressure and were giving away numerous fouls in dangerous places. Inevitably, Caldicott scored from a well taken free kick which made the score 3-1.

With Aberaeron chasing the game, another defensive error allowed the Caldicott striker to run through and put the final nail in the home team’s coffin. To add insult to injury, Ryan Jones, who had played very well throughout the game, was sent off for a late challenge.

4-1 was not a true reflection of the match and Aberaeron will rue missed chances and simple errors.
