screen-shot-2017-01-03-at-12-33-10AMMAN UNITED made it through to the last 16 of the WRU National Bowl last Saturday (Dec 10), as they beat St Albans 39-5.

The visitors took the opportunity to blood a few of their younger players and they filled in ably whilst the rest of the team also played their part in an excellent match.

Amman went ahead early on as Matthew Brayley offloaded the ball for Dan Jenkins and he ran over to score wide out for a 5-0 lead.

Scrum half Joel Foster then extended his side’s lead with a penalty.

Amman were dominant throughout the first half and were particularly strong in their scrums and line outs.

A good move from the backs then resulted in Adrian Thomas going through to score a try under the posts which Foster converted for a 15-0 lead.

Not content to sit in their lead, they went in search of another score and after a good pick up and drive, Matthew Brayley crossed for the try and Foster again added the extras.

That gave Amman United a 22-0 half time lead and left them in a strong position for the second half, knowing that St Albans would have to come out and play if they wanted to progress.

However, early in the second half, Adrian Thomas, playing at outside half rather than in his usual position of full back, crossed over for his second try.

Amman continued to dominate the play and outsider centre Gavin Lewis, who earned himself the Man of the Match award, passed the ball to Brayley, who went over for his second try and Foster again added the extra two points.

Dan Jenkins then broke and chipped ahead for Foster, who scored the try to complete an excellent afternoon for Amman United.

St Albans scored a consolation try but it was Amman United’s day and they will now look forward to their tie in the last 16 against Monmouth.

This Saturday (Dec 17), they return to league action against Betws.
