Swalec Plate Round Four

Whitland 10

CR Cymry Caerdydd 6

WHITLAND edged themselves through to the quarter finals of the Swalec Plate on Saturday, as they were victorious by 10 points to 6.

Their opponents, CR Cymry Caerdydd, play their rugby in Division Two of the East Central League and have four wins in eleven league games so far this season.

In a tight first half both sides looked to get the upper hand but neither were able to pull away.

An infringement handed Whitland the chance to take the lead and Nico Setaro duly obliged to put his side three points ahead.

However, the sides were level before half time as Oliver Jenkins also slotted over a penalty to make it 3-3.

Jenkins then put the visitors ahead in the second half with his second penalty of the game.

Sion Coles then took matters into his own hands as he clipped the ball forwards before picking the ball up and going over for the first try of the match.

Setaro was successful with the conversion giving Whitland a 10-6 lead.

The visitors looked to get back into the game but came up against a determined Whitland defence who were able to see the game out to book the Borderer’s place in the last eight of the competition.

Whitland return to league action on Saturday, March 5, and they are away to top of the table Dunvant.
