screen-shot-2016-10-18-at-11-52-59THE RACECOURSE ground in Penybont was the venue for Saturday’s (Oct 1) match, with the home team seeking their first win of the season, and Borth hoping to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

On a good playing surface, despite the heavy overnight rain, both teams played an open game as the half progressed.

Borth duly opened the scoring on 25 minutes with Ryan Davies’ curling free kick into the bottom corner of the net.

Almost immediately, the same player was put through on goal but his shot hit the post.

In the next attack, he wasn’t to be denied his second goal as he evaded the Penybont defence and placed a shot past the keeper.

He completed his deserved hat trick moments later with a sublime lob over the keeper into the empty net to leave Borth with a handy 0-3 lead at the interval.

To be fair, Penybont didn’t let their heads drop as they attempted to reduce the arrears but the Borth defence and the safe handling of keeper Sean Gates kept their attacks in check.

In the last quarter of the match, Liam Lewis scored with a cool finish from a Ryan Davies pass, and the two strikers combined soon afterwards with Lewis’ pass for Davies to score his fourth goal of the afternoon for a comprehensive 0-5 win for Borth.

Borth’s all-round team effort was complimented afterwards by delighted managerial duo Ian Lewis and Paul Hill, and puts the team in good heart for their Spar League Cup Round 1 home match against Machynlleth next Saturday (Oct 8), kicking off at 2.30pm.
