Topsy-turvy: A Borth player plays the ball forward in their thrilling match on Saturday

BORTH UNITED are through to the semi-finals of the E.R. Jenkins cup after they beat Dyffryn Banw 5-3 in extra time in a thrilling game last Saturday (Mar 11).

Borth travelled to Llangadfan in good spirits and expected a tough match against Dyffryn Banw and the early exchanges proved that.

The hosts were also prepared for a tough contest but were unlucky to concede the opening goal as Ryan Davies fed the ball to Liam Berner and his shot took a wicked deflection into the top corner of the net.

Banw soon replied as Rhodri Davies cut in from the left wing and beat keeper Sean Gates with a right foot shot just inside the post.

The hosts then took the lead with the ever dangerous Geraint Roberts scoring from close in as they held on to their 2-1 lead up to the half time interval.

It took Banw only five minutes of the second half to increase their lead with Jamie Huxley scoring with a neat finish.

However, Borth raised their game as the half progressed and reduced the arrears with Liam Lewis scoring with a right foot shot.

Lewis made the Borth comeback complete by scoring late on to send the cup tie into extra time.

Borth keeper Sean Gates made a superb save to stop the lively Geraint Roberts giving Banw the lead as extra time progressed.

The visitors regained the lead with Ryan Davies scoring from the penalty spot after a handball in the area.

As the hosts pressed forwards in search of an equalizer Borth made sure of winning the tie as Liam Berner crossed from the right wing to the far post and Ryan Davies scored to give Borth a semi-final match against Churchstoke.

Credit to both teams on an entertaining cup tie, with Borth resuming league duties with a crucial match away at Builth Wells on Saturday (Mar 18), ko 2-30pm.
