DYFED athletes and staff from all 28 secondary schools have recently been busy at their district area athletics competitions held at Carmarthen, Llanelli and Pembroke in the past week featuring youngsters in Years 7-13.

There was plenty of local talent and future stars out on show during the three meetings.

Eight Ceredigion schools were the first to travel and visit Johnstown for their competition, before 300 Brianne athletes took part at the same venue 48 hours later. For the six Llanelli schools, they had made the short journey across town to the Pemberton track on a stunning warm day. Events varied in each age group over short and middle distances as well as the popular field events & hurdles heats and finals.

On Wednesday (May 18) an exciting last 7 days concluded with the Pembrokeshire Schools Athletics at Sir Thomas Picton Track in Haverfordwest.

Full results from all 4 matches can be viewed on the Carmarthen Harriers website.

The standard of competition was very high which produced many encouraging performances; and a few school records broken.

The top finishers in each event have now qualified to compete and represent their area at the big Dyfed Secondary Schools Athletics championships at Carmarthen over the two day weekend programme on Friday Evening 10th and Saturday June 11.

Immediately after the competition, a team will be selected to compete at the Welsh National competition in Cardiff in July, forming the Gemau Cymru Athletics Urdd weekend.
