THE draw for the quarter finals of the JD Welsh Cup has thrown up an exciting west-Wales derby between Carmarthen Town and Aberystwyth Town.
Both sides won their respective fourth round matches on Saturday (Jan 27), and the two were drawn against each other in the draw which took place on Monday night (Jan 29).
Carmarthen were 4-1 winners over Airbus Broughton in their match thanks to a stunning opening goal from new signing Aiden O’Kelly, two from Liam Thomas and another O’Kelly finish.
The Old Gold faced neighbours Ammanford in the third round, narrowly beating them by three goals to two.
Aberystwyth were 1-0 winners away to Cardiff Met in their fourth round game with the only goal of the game coming from Malcolm Melvin shortly before half time.
The Black and Greens had previously travelled to the Cyncoed Campus for a league match which ended 1-1 and they knew they were in with a chance of going through.
The two sides met in the league recently on Boxing Day and New Years Day with Carmarthen winning both of those games but the Black and Greens will be keen to avenge those defeats.
With the two teams also set to play each other in the second half of the Welsh Premier League season, the teams will be well versed with each other by the time their quarter-final tie at Richmond Park comes around.
A date and time is yet to be finalised for the game.
Elsewhere, Penydarren BGC, who are having a fantastic season, were drawn away to Bangor City. The New Saints are away to Connahs Quay Nomads and Llandudno face Newtown.
