South Wales Premier League Round up

IN Division 1 of the South Wales Premier League last Saturday (May 26), Ammanford earned their first win of the season as they beat Pontarddulais by five wickets.

Pontarddulais were put in to bat and reached 172 for 8 from their 50 overs.

Mel Williams top scored for his side as he hit seven fours and a six in a knock of 58 before he was caught by Jack Murphy off the bowling of Matthew Roberts.

Carl Roberts made 28 while a late score of 36 from Paul Rees (before he was run out by Daniel Roberts) took Pontarddulais to their total.

Matthew Roberts was the pick of the bowlers with his two wickets while Tom Murphy also took two wickets.

In reply, Jack Murphy made a match-winning contribution of 92, with five fours and a six, but he watched as a number of his team mates were sent back to the pavilion.

Rhodri Davies was out for 12 and both Rhys Culley and Daniel Roberts departed for single figure scores.

Craig Maloney scored 19 before Murphy finally received some support as Josef Davies finished not out on 26 to help his side to victory.

On Saturday, June 2, Ammanford are at home as they take on Neath.

In Division 2 of the South Wales Premier, Llanelli and Carmarthen were both beaten last Saturday.

Llanelli were asked to bat first but were all out for 146 in their game with Swansea. Marcus Leaf top scored for Llanelli with 46 and Iwan Rees hit 12 but a number of other batsmen failed to make it into double figures.

Robert Bowen finished not out on 24 but it wasn’t enough to help his side to a sizeable total.

In reply, Ben Stein and Dan Pickard both made twenties before Steven Devonald provided some resistance as he took three wickets.

Gareth Hayden hit 29 before he was out to the bowling of Iwan Rees while Adnan Ghori finished not out on 43 to help Swansea to victory.

Carmarthen Wanderers asked Tata Steel to bat first and they watched as the home side reached 202-6 from their 48 overs.

Rohan Herbert was ever-present for Tata finishing not out on 86 while Matthew Jones was run out for a score of 38 by Nathan Burrell.

Gareth Thomas took two caught and bowled before a late score of 53 from Sam Jardine took Tata past 200 runs.

In reply, all of Carmarthen Wanderers batters made it into double figures but all failed to go on and make a big score with Joshua Thomas top scoring on 38. Owain Davies scored 24 and Steven Mills added 21 but they fell short of their target, finishing on 180-7.

On Saturday, June 2, Carmarthen Wanderers face Swansea and Llanelli host Panteg.

In Division 1 of the South Wales Cricket Association, Llandysul earned a six wicket win over Bronwydd.

Some excellent bowling restricted Bronwydd to 119 all out as Luke Swift took three wickets while Arfon Jones, Daniel Thomas and Rhidian Harries all took two wickets each.

Bronwydd’s top scorer was Oliver Furneaux who hit 19 runs while Fernando hit 18 and Dafydd Morgan scored 17.

Llandysul’s Ben Edkins top scored in their reply as he hit 45 runs before he was bowled by Matthew Vaughan.

Llewelyn Hughes then finished not out on 34 to guide his side to a comfortable win.

Dafen’s Gethin Long scored a century as he helped his side to a mammoth total against Merthyr Tydfil.

Dafen had been reduced to 89-5 but Long’s score of 120 and scores of 42 from Phillip George and 52 not out from Matthew Donoghue took Dafen to 310-7.

In reply, Merthyr never looked like reaching their target despite scores of 40 from Andrew Murphy and 31 from Liam Davies.

Matthew Evans and Phillip George both took three wickets for Dafen as Merthyr were all out for 125.

On Saturday, June 2, Bronwydd host Gorseinon, Cowbridge welcome Llandysul and Dafen are at home to Maesteg Celtic.

In Division 2, Drefach earned their first win of the season as they beat Llangennech by 63 runs.

Drefach reached 199-8 in their innings thanks to a score of 60 from Rob Seymour while Owen Donovan finished not out on 46.

Llangennech were all out for 136 in reply as only Chris Hickey with 48, Matthew Jones with 20 and two other batsmen made it into double figures.

James Carter was in fine form for Drefach taking four wickets while Leigh Davies also took two wickets.

Felinfoel earned a 56-run victory over Morriston last Saturday as they bowled them out fort 118.

The home side had earlier reached 174 with late scores of 51 from Julian Griffiths and 47 from Tom Jones helped them recover from 21-4.

Felinfoel’s Stuart Parmenter then took four wickets as they looked to claim the win. Julian Griffiths took three wickets and Chris Bowen also struck twice as Morriston failed to get near their target.

On Saturday, June 2, Drefach host Briton Ferry Town, Felinfoel are away to Maesteg and Llangennech are also away as they take on Morriston.
