Dock begin season with thrilling win over Carew

PEMBROKE DOCK marked their first game in Division 1 in style as they earned a thrilling win over Carew on Sunday (Apr 24).

The Dock were set a target of 273 to win and they were able to reach it with just two balls to spare.

They had earlier won the toss and elected to field, giving Carew the chance to amass a big total on a good surface.

Carew lost Ian Sefton and Shaun Whitfield early on to the bowling of Euan McDonald but a strong partnership from Rhys Davies and Lewis Hicks set them on their way.

Hicks reached a score of 91 with eleven fours and five sixes but he was unlucky to miss out on a century as he was caught by Nick Daley off the bowling of White.

Davies hit eight fours and three sixes in his knock of 67 before he was run out by Jamie White.

McDonald claimed a third wicket as he had had Simon Wood caught by White on a score of 26.

Nick Davies was run out by Jake Davies while Luke Hicks smashed six fours and three sixes as he made his way to a score of 56 before being bowled by Billy Wood.

That saw Carew finish on 272-7 and the Dock made a good start to their reply with Jake Davies and Rhys Daley sharing 69 runs for the first wicket.

Davies his nine fours in his score of 45 but he was then caught by Luke Hicks off the bowling of Simon Wood.

Rhys was then joined by father Nick but he did not last long as he was caught by James Hinchliffe off the bowling of Wood.

Rhys followed soon after as he was run out on a score of 34, leaving the Dock on 97-3.

Tom Grimwood and Scott Griffiths then swung the game in the Dock’s favour as they shared 109 runs for the fourth wicket.

Grimwood made a score of 30 but he was then bowled by James Hinchliffe. Wood also fell to the bowling of Hinchliffe but Griffiths continued as he neared his century.

He hit eleven fours and two sixes in a score of 95 from 70 balls but he was bowled by Shaun Whitfield.

Archie Hillier-Wood and Neil Gregory then kept their nerve as they saw the Dock over the line in the last over.

Hillier-Wood finished unbeaten on 23 and Gregory was not out on 15 as the home side won by four wickets.

On Sunday, May 1, Pembroke Dock travel to Narberth while Carew host Saundersfoot.
