Champions Neyland begin title defense with win

DIVISION 1 champions Neyland kicked their 2022 season off with a five-wicket win over Narberth on Sunday (Apr 24).

After Neyland elected to field first on winning the toss, Narberth knew they would need to bat well to put the home side under pressure.

However, Narberth were soon struggling with early wickets for Jack John (3-12) and Patrick Hannon (3-13) leaving them on 1-2.

Richie Adams scored 12 for Narberth, Lewis Hough added 15 and the visitors’ top scorer was Kyle Quartermaine with 39.

Shay Norcross finished not out on 16 but it could not prevent his side being bowled out for 110, with Andrew Miller also getting amongst the wickets (3-36) for the home side.

Neyland lost Patrick Bellerby early in their reply for a score of 16 when he was bowled by Ben Quartermaine.

Ashley Sutton was bowled by Ben Hughes on a score of 12 and George Evans fell for a duck when he was bowled by Lewis Hough.

That left the champions on 48-3 and it soon became 59-4 when Paul Murray was caught off the bowling of Ben Hughes.

That brought Ross Hardy to the crease and he wasted little time in reaching a score of 26 before seeing partner Scott John trapped leg before wicket by Lewis Hough.

With the score now on 89-5, Narberth’s tails were up but they were unable to take out Hardy who eventually steered Neyland to their target.
