Ahead of Tuesday’s squad announcement for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia, Wales have been hit with injury concerns – with 21-year-old forward Brennan Johnson suffering an injury scare.
On Saturday, during Nottingham Forest’s Premier League defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, the 21-year-old experienced a groin issue.
Forest manager Steve Cooper has stated that they “don’t know how bad” the severity of Johnson’s injury is.
Wales are scheduled to play against Croatia on Saturday, March 25th, and will host Latvia three days later.
Wayne Hennessey, who also plays for Forest, withdrew from the bench just before the start of the 3-1 defeat to Spurs.
“Wayne felt his knee [was injured] so was unable to go on the bench,” said Forest manager Steve Cooper.
During the 3-1 loss to Middlesbrough, Ollie Cooper from Swansea City was also substituted at halftime.
Manager Russell Martin said: “He wasn’t able to produce his best after he took a big whack.
“He felt he could go on but it just wasn’t worth risking.
“We’ve two really important games coming up and there’s the Wales squad announcement as well which we hope he’ll be in.”
Wales will participate in the qualifiers without the presence of Joe Allen, Chris Gunter, Jonny Williams, and the legendary Gareth Bale, who has retired from playing altogether.
Nonetheless, there was some positive news for Robert Page as Aaron Ramsey played his first game in three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.
Ramsey entered the pitch as a substitute and played the last 26 minutes of Nice’s 2-2 draw with Nantes, which is a good sign for Wales.
