Griffiths and Walker take Half Marathon crown

Course record: Dewi Griffiths beat his own record from last year’s race

THE THIRD running of the Swansea Half Marathon was won by Dewi Griffiths and Hannah Walker, both in record times.

Nearly 8000 runners, representing 28 nationalities, took part in the ever -growing race, which was held on Sunday (Jun 26).

The course started in the centre of Swansea and took runners past St Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground, Swansea University and to Mumbles, where runners turned back towards the centre where the race started.

Dewi Griffiths, who also won the race last year, finished in an excellent time of 1:05:38, over a minute faster than his winning time in 2015.

Griffiths was representing the Swansea Harriers and his team mates, Danal Desta and Josh Griffiths, came home second and third respectively to make it a successful day for their team.

After the race, Griffiths said he was using the race as a warm -up for the European Half Marathon Championships which take place in Amsterdam in two weeks.

Hannah Walker, representing Run Fast, finished the course in 1:14:31, which was also a course record.

The wheelchair race was won by Richie Powell who finished the course in 1:01:27.

There were also runners from Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion taking part.
