Haverfordwest County earn comfortable pre-season win

HAVERFORDWEST County earned their first win of pre-season on Tuesday night (Jul 12) as they beat Afan Lido 5-1 at the Marstons Stadium.

The Bluebirds played Swansea City at the beginning of the month and they travelled to Afan Lido with a number of new signings named in the squad, alongside two trialists.

There was an early chance for Dylan Rees but he sent his shot wide. Both sides then saw headers go wide as both looked to get into their own rhythym.

With 18 minutes gone, Ricky Watts crossed into the box for Ben Fawcett whose headed the ball down and into the net.

Fawcett could have doubled the Bluebirds’ lead just a minute later as he broke free but his shot was saved by the Lido keeper.

The visitors were then forced into a change with Kyle Patten going off injured to be replaced by Iori Humphreys.

On the half hour, Henry Jones’ ball over the top sent Fawcett away and he squared the ball into the box for Ryan George who tapped in from close range.

Jones was again influential as County scored their third goal, when his cross was met by George who scored his second of the game.

There was still time for one more as Jones got his name on the scoresheet as his low shot went in off the post.

The Bluebirds added a fifth ten minutes into the second half as Jordan Davies capitalised on a mistake before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net.

Jack Wilson then had the ball in the net from Ioan Evans’ cross but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Zac Jones then made a good save to keep his clean sheet intact before Lido hit the post from the resulting corner.

Jones then made another good save but he was finally beaten with five minutes to go as Lido pulled one back.

That was the last of the action as the Bluebirds secured a comfortable in Tony Pennock’s second game in charge.

Their next game takes place on Friday, July 15, as they take on Goodwick United at the Bridge Meadow.
