Herbrandston secure promotion to Division 1

HERBRANDSTON secured promotion to Division 1 on Saturday (Aug 20) as they beat Lamphey by 165 runs.

Ahead of the game, Herbie sat two points behind leaders Burton and knew a win could see them go up as champions if Burton slipped up.

There was also a chance that third placed Whitland could have leapfrogged them into second place.

Herbie won the toss and chose to bat and they scored 249-9 from their 45 overs.

Harry Nicholas top scored with 45 while Charlie Malloy and Rob Hood both made scores of 34. Arran Bowles, Kristian Bennett and Jonty Bennett all made scores of 27.

Hugh Bendall took 3-66 for Lamphey and David Dredge finished with 2-35. Hywel Gibbs also finished with good figures of 2-49.

In reply, Dredge scored 39 but that was as good as it got for the home side as they were bowled out for 84.

Robert Hood was the pick of the bowlers as he had outstanding figures of 6-12. Paul Nicholas also bowled well for his figures of 2-14 and Dean John took 2-25.

It gave Herbie the win they needed and it sees them return to the first division for the first time since 2011.
