Jim Williams wins first PDC title

Welshman Jim Williams beat Ricky Evans in the Players Championship 6 to secure his first PDC title.

Williams, 37, beat Evans 8-6 in the Barnsley-based PDC tournament for his first ProTour title.

Evans had equalised early on with a 128 checkout to make it 6-6, but Williams was able to edge the last two sets for the victory.

The Cardiff-born player hit a 12 dart leg followed by a double 1 checkout to secure the victory.

After earning his PDC Tour Card earlier this year, Williams has competed in only six events – winning this one.

His run to the final included a 6-0 destruction of Peter Hudson, as well as victories over Kevin Burness and Andrew Gilding in the early rounds.

The Welshman then overcame Premier League player Michael Smith after defeating Scott Williams, before beating Martin Schindler 7-5 to reach the final.

‘The Quiff’ said: “I didn’t feel any nerves all day until the last match darts.

“It wasn’t a great way to win it but it is a good feeling. It’s a very long day and I haven’t played that much in the last three years really so I had to battle through.”

“To win it is great and hopefully now I feel like I belong and can kick on from here.”
