screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-10-24-32LIVE rugby is back on S4C on Saturday night (Sept 3) with the Clwb Rygbi team set for the challenge of tackling Guinness Pro12 Championship matches.

With the kick-off at 7.35pm, Clwb Rygbi is part of an exciting Saturday evening schedule which also includes a live Welsh Premier League football game in Sgorio, and then entertainment after 9pm.

It all starts with the clash between the Blues and Edinburgh at the Arms Park BT Sport on Saturday.

All games will be available to watch in HD on the Sky and Freesat.

The matches are available to watch on demand and online throughout the UK on s4c.cymru and the BBC iPlayer.

A new presenter, Gareth Rhys Owen, will anchor the coverage, which is produced by BBC Wales.

Gareth is a familiar face and voice to a large number of viewers and listeners, as an experienced television and radio sport journalist and rugby and cycling commentator.

He considers the opportunity to anchor the programme as a privilege, especially as he is to follow in the footsteps of previous presenter, Gareth Roberts.

“Gareth Roberts has led the way in terms of broadcasting in Wales over the last decade. So, it’s quite a challenge to follow in his footsteps but a challenge that I savour,” says Gareth Rhys Owen, who is originally from Kidwelly and now lives in Cardiff.

He joins an experienced team, which includes Gareth Charles and Gwyn Jones, and analysts such as Deiniol Jones, Dafydd Jones and Andrew Coombs. They are all eager to see the Welsh regions compete for the title and the top places in the league.

“I look forward to seeing if the Welsh regions can step up to the next level,” adds Gareth. “I think there’s a quiet revolution happening at the Blues with Danny Wilson in charge. It’s the same old challenges that face the Dragons, with a limited budget and a less experienced squad, but if Kingsley Jones can put fire in their bellies, I think they will be able to compete.”

Connacht were the champions last year but can the two West Wales regions challenge them and the other big teams from Ireland and Scotland?

With Jonathan Davies returning to the Scarlets and Rhys Patchell now in their ranks, they have an exciting backline. And when you consider the likes of Olly Cracknell, Owen Watkin and Sam Underhill, there’s a nucleus of influence young players within the Ospreys squad. If Steve Tandy can use them effectively, the Ospreys can compete for the top league places.”
