Laugharne see off battling Quins

LAUGHARNE kept up with the teams at the top of League 3 West A on Saturday (Jan 8) as they beat a battling Pembroke Dock Quins side 5-25 at Bierspool.

The Quins put in a strong challenge against the high fliers from Laugharne in the bitter conditions and for the first 20 minutes both sides slugged it out on a heavy pitch.

Quins Outside Half Euan MacDonald missed with a long range penalty after 10 minutes and it wasn’t till the 25th minute that the scoreboard got moving.

The Quins’ Scrum was penalised in front of their own posts and up stepped Full Back Matt Tait to put his side into the lead.

The rest of the half was a real battle up front as the Quins struggled at Line Out and Scrum as the visitors dominated possession, but it was the Quins who really should have scored just before half time as they laid siege to the Laugharne try line. But it was not to be, so both sides after a hard opening 40 minutes went in for a well earned break.

It was anybodys game as the second half started, but it was the visitors who were first on the scoresheet when Hooker Ritchie Waters charged down the touchline to score in Dimocks Corner with the half just three minutes old.

Matt Tate missed the difficult Conversion.

Ten minutes later the Quins Scrum was once again in trouble near their own line and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty try.

The visitors now were pressing the young Quins side big time as they tired.

The Quins though hit back with a try of their own when Prop Dan McCloud touched down after a Quins tapped Penalty.
