Llandovery pupils are ‘fit for life’

Llandovery Prep pupils: Enjoying their morning run
Llandovery Prep pupils: Enjoying their morning run

AT LLANDOVERY PREPARATORY SCHOOL every day now starts with a fun run.

A new initiative for the summer term sees pupils achieving an additional thirty minutes of aerobic exercise every day.

Between 8.30am and 9.00am you will find all the pupils aged 4-13 years, accompanied by teachers and even parents, running each to their own capabilities; the younger ones supported and encouraged by the older children.

As part of the holistic approach to education, the Prep School’s aim is to embed a behaviour pattern that pupils will take into adult life, combating the global trend of childhood, and subsequently adult, obesity, whilst having a lot of fun in the process.

The run is in addition to the pupils’ timetabled PE and games and has been arranged so that it does not impact on their academic timetable.

Already the children are saying that they feel better and happier and it has quickly become part of the daily routine.

Guy Ayling, Warden of the College, said of the new initiative: “We all know that physical activity is good for us but there is also a strong suggestion, which we are putting to the test, that when exercise is taken in the morning learning efficiency improves dramatically – both body and mind benefit therefore!”
