Major scalp for battling Robins

Robins scalpMilford United 2
Bonymaen Colts 1

MILFORD United took a major scalp by beating last year’s semi finalists Bonymean Colts at Marble Hall.

The Robins took the game to the Swansea League from the kick off, keeping the ball on the ground and adapting to the gale force weather conditions the better. A golden opportunity was missed after 15 minutes when Jack Daines was put through by a pin-point pass, but he fired wide. Moments later the Robins forward was put through again, but the ball found him on the wrong side and on the wrong foot and he fired wide again.

The Robins took the lead five minutes after the break when Chris Thompson struck a speculative 30-yard shot which hung in the wind and lobbed the Bonymaen keeper. The Robins maintained the pressure and after 75 minutes they went two up when a good midfield move on the left hand side found Thompson unmarked in the box and he slotted home.

Bonymaen scored late on in the game when a clearance by Scott Griffiths was caught in the wind and a Bonymaen forward was on hand to head the ball home.Manager Phil Marchant was delighted with the result, saying that his team worked hard all afternoon and deserved to go into the next round of the cup.
