Old Gold complete double over Ammanford

CARMARTHEN TOWN completed an Easter double over local rivals Ammanford on Easter Monday with a comprehensive 4-0 win at Richmond Park.

Ammanford had a large percentage of possession in this game but couldn’t capitalise against a resolute home defence.

Carmarthen scored their first goal after only five minutes from a breakaway move which left striker Noah Daley in space out wide on the left and he slotted the ball into the Ammanford net.

Carmarthen doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when an Ammanford free kick was cleared up field to Jamie Rickard who applied the finish to make it 2-0.

The second half task for Ammanford was simply to try and get the next goal in the game.

Ammanford’s Liam Samuel came close but saw his shot sail over the Carmarthen crossbar.

That was the closest Ammanford came as Carmarthen extended their lead in the 58th minute when Noah Daley got his second goal of the game.

Six minutes later Carmarthen’s Bradley Gibbings fired home a fierce shot to make it 4-0 and effectively kill off the contest.

Carmarthen had time to strike the inside of the Ammanford post and striker Noah Daley should have completed his hat trick but was denied by some dogged defending from Ammanford’s goalkeeper Craig Morris and centre back Euros Griffiths.

A disappointing performance from Ammanford in front of a good travelling support. Carmarthen however will be well satisfied with their dominating win which sees them move up to fourth place in the JD Cymru South table.

The teams have just one final game to play this season with Ammanford hosting Llanelli Town while Carmarthen host Pontypridd Town.
