Parkes cleans up at awards

SCARLETS BACK Hadleigh Parkes has been awarded the top honours at the Scarlets End of Season Award Evening held at the Quinnell Lounge, Parc y Scarlets this evening, Tuesday (May 10).

Parc y Scarlets hosted a very special end of season awards gala dinner to honour those who have played their part in the region’s top six finish and ensuring a place in next season’s European Rugby Champions Cup.

New Zealand born Parkes, 28, is the only player to have played every minute of this season’s regular Guinness PRO12 starting all 22 games and scoring five tries. A strong ball carrier and heroic in defence Parkes has created many of Scarlets’ tries this season as well as scoring five of his own.

The versatile player is just as comfortable at centre and on the wing and his leadership skills have seen him lead the side on six occasions and win the Management Player of the Season Award.

A public vote run on Scarlets’ social media channels also saw the back named Worthington’s Fans Player of the Season.

Fellow Kiwi Michael Collins, who has played 17 games for the region, has been awarded try of the season for his run in against Ulster in the all-important victory at Kingspan Stadium.

Tighthead prop Edwards has played over 1,000 minutes for the second season running making 14 starts for the Scarlets from 19 involvements winning him the Clubman of the Season award. 35-yearold Edwards has signed a contract extension keeping him at the Scarlets for another year and will continue to help the development of younger tightheads at the region.

His performances of late have won him cult status with the region’s supporters.

Emotional farewells were made to outgoing players as another season draws to a close.
