Pembroke seconds claim bragging rights against Quins

PEMBROKE 19-7 PEMBROKE DOCK HARLEQUINS

PEMBROKE grabbed the bragging rights in this hastily arranged fixture to walk away with the Eric Brown Cup on Saturday, February 19.

The Scarlets had first use of the wind and it did not take them long to get on the scoresheet, after just ten minutes Second Row Theo Davies scored a close range rry which was converted by Scrum Half Darren Showers.

The Quins very nearly hit back on 17 minutes when Right Wing Jamie Topp looked like he scored but some fine defence by the Scarlets robbed the young Winger of a try.

Darren Showers missed an opportunity to increase his sides lead when he pushed a well struck penalty wide.

The last ten minutes of the half were to prove crucial in the final outcome of the match when the Scarlets grabbed two tries, both from Flanker Leon Steward.

Darren Showers converted the former to send his side in 19-0 to the good at half time.

The Quins had the advantage of the wind in the second half, and really needed an early score to settle the nerves.

Unfortunately it did not come, and with the Scrum struggling it was now going to be a real uphill task.

Aaron James came on to play in an unaccustomed role of Scrum Half and grabbed a close range try ten minutes from time, which was superbly converted from the touchline by Outside Half Euan MacDonald in one of the few bright moments for the Quins.
