Penybanc edge stars in thriller

Stars’ Dan Hatton: Competes for line out ball.

New Dock Stars 21
Penybanc 22

PENYBANC came into the came in buoyant mood following their victory over second placed Lampeter despite being without head coach Chirs Jones.

The visitors started at a rapid pace and got their first try when centre Mathew Brayley broke free of a tackle to release Aled Danter and the flanker romped home for a try converted by Bradley Nicholls.

New Dock Stars were causing problems at the set piece with their powerful pack and found themselves back in the game with a Jason Baxter penalty. Banc responded when centre Brayley again showed his class and powered over for the second try converted by Nicholls.

Either side of half time the Stars got back into the game with two fine tries of their own accompanied by another Baxter penalty to edge them into the lead for the first time.

With penalties and drop goals the lead was switching hands regularly and with Stars leading 21-17 with the clock running down, Penybanc knew only a try would do. Scrum half Owen Williams obliged, spotting a gap to sail through and clinch victory by the narrowest of margins.
