Emyr Phillips: Ruptured knee ligaments

SCARLETS hooker Emyr Phillips has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2015-16 season having undergone reconstructive knee surgery.

Phillips, 28, had surgery earlier this week to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. Phillips suffered the injury in Scarlets’ 27-25 defeat to Cardiff Blues in the Guinness PRO12 on New Year’s Day. He had featured in all but one of Scarlets’ 15 competitive fixtures so far this season after injury (shoulder and pec) hampered his ability to play during the 2014-15 campaign. Phillips has amassed 126 appearances for the region so far and three Welsh caps.

Andrew Walker, Scarlets Head of Medical, said: “Emyr underwent surgery to his knee on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the current season. “His rehab will begin immediately and he would expect to see him back to full fitness during the pre-season.”
