Prendergast Villa claim Division 5 Cup with win over Tenby

PRENDERGAST VILLA won the Division 5 Cup on Tuesday night (May 10) as they beat Tenby seconds 3-1 in Monkton.

The game had been played a few weeks ago but it was abandoned after a Villa player suffered a broken leg.

A good crowd gathered for the game and they saw Villa have a number of chances to score in the first half.

Villa saw a header go over while Lee Davies saw another header go straight into the hands of Tenby keeper Teejay Gardner.

At the other end a Tenby free kick fell to Will Malone on the edge of the box but his effort was straight at the Villa keeper.

It remained goalless at the break but with an hour gone the game turned in Villa’s favour.

Ben Howells was sent off after receiving a second yellow card after he brought down Joe John in the box.

Joe John stepped up to take the penalty but saw his effort saved but the ball came back to him and he tapped in the rebound.

Gareth Richards then put Villa 2-0 up with twenty minutes to play.

Will Malone pulled a goal back with two minutes of the 90 left to set up a nervous final few minutes.

However, those nerves were settled in injury time as the Villa were awarded another penalty. This time, Simon Gilderdale took it and he buried his spot kick in the corner to make it 3-1.

That was the end of the action and the Villa celebrated their Cup success.
