Rooks stun Goodwick

CAREW dealt a blow to Goodwick United’s title hopes on Saturday (Mar 9) as they secured an excellent 3-2 win.

The result also sees the Rooks close the gap to Goodwick to nine points and they now have three games in hand on Goodwick.

With only a couple of chances and a couple of bookings for Carew the first half finished 0-0.

Carew then got their first with a powerful Jordan Richards strike from long range which flew past the Goodwick keeper.

The Rooks then got their second when Shaun Whitfield was clearly taken out in the box with no arguments made and Jordan Richards then stepped up to smash the ball into the bottom corner.

Lloyd Hughes then made it 3-0 with a right foot strike which trickled into the bottom corner.

Goodwick however did not give up and got a goal with ten minutes left with a long free kick which ended unluckily bouncing off Carew defender Scott Richards and into the net.

Then straight after Kieran O’Brien found himself free in the box and headed home to make it 3-2. Despite Goodwick’s fight back Carew managed to hang on with a good save from keeper Tom Davies and some last ditch defending to finish the game with a 3-2 win.

On Saturday (Mar 16), Carew are at home to Neyland while Goodwick will look to get back to winning ways as they take on title chasing Monkton Swifts.
