Swifts remain in pole position

Goal: James Russell fires in

MONKTON Swifts increased their lead at the top of Division 1 on Saturday (Mar 9) as they earned a narrow 3-2 away to Saundersfoot Sports.

With Goodwick losing against Carew, Monkton now lead by ten points with their closest challengers having just one game in hand.

Jake Seaton put the Swifts ahead in the first half as he headed home from a corner.

The visitors doubled their lead when Ben Steele latched on to a goal kick and he ran on to slot the ball past the keeper.

It was 2-0 at half time but the home side got themselves back into the game in the second half as they pulled a goal back.

James Russell then restored Monkton’s two goal lead as he went one on one with the keeper before slotting in to make it 3-1.

Saundersfoot pulled a second goal back late on with a penalty but there wasn’t enough time for them to find another goal. Jack Franklin and Adam Davidson were on target for the home side.

On Saturday (Mar 16), Saundersfoot are away as they take on Herbrandston in a crucial game at the bottom end of the table.

There is also a crucial game at the top as Monkton host Goodwick United.
