PENRHYNCOCH were forced to settle for a share of the points on Saturday (Jan 21), as they drew 1-1 with Caernarfon Town.
The Roosters went into the game on the back of two straight wins but Saturday’s draw means they are now unbeaten in four league games.
They started the game in a confident manner, pushing their opponents back in the early stages as they forced three corners in quick succession.
They also had a penalty appeal turned down by the referee as they searched for the opening goal.
The visitors started to come into the match and went close when Danny Brookwell sent a low shot towards goal which was saved by the Penrhyn keeper.
Roosters keeper Leigh Jenkins was in excellent form and he did well to deny a flying volley from Jay Gibbs to keep the scores level.
Jonathan Evans and Antonio Corbeserio both looked dangerous for the home side and it was Evans who eventually broke the deadlock.
He picked the ball up inside the box and turned smartly before firing the ball past the Caernarfon keeper and into the bottom right corner.
Jamie Breese came close to levelling the scores shortly before the break but his shot was again saved by Jenkins.
In the second half, the visitors started to get on top and after Jenkins had parried Jay Gibbs’ free kick, he was alert to gather Breese’s header from the rebound.
16 minutes into the half, the visitors got the goal their play had deserved when Kevin Lloyd did well to get on the end of Nathan Craig’s cross to head the ball home.
Lloyd then went close to putting his side ahead minutes later when he dribbled past two defenders before shooting just wide of the target.
The hosts were far from a spent force, however, and goal scorer Jon Evans was inches away from regaining the lead for the hosts when he struck powerfully from 20 yards, but his effort just missed the target.
Caernarfon pressed forward for the remainder of the match but, due to the hosts’ determined and sometimes desperate rear guard action, they were forced to settle for a point.
On Saturday (Jan 28), Penrhyncoch are away to second bottom Buckley Town.
