Saundersfoot upset the leaders

SAUNDERSFOOT earned their first win of the season on Saturday (May 25) as they upset leaders Neyland at the Athletic Ground, beating them by three runs in a close game.

The visitors were invited to bat first after Neyland won the toss but were all out for 133 following some good efforts from the home bowlers.

Saundersfoot’s Simon Stanford top scored with 37 runs while John Mansbridge scored 24 and Sam Franklin added 20.

Andrew Miller was the pick of the bowlers for Neyland as he took four wickets for the loss of 37 runs.

Henry Durrant (2-20), Tom Pritchard (2-20) and Geraint Rees (2-26) picked up the other six wickets between them.

At tea, Neyland would have been confident of victory but their opponents had other ideas.

Miller went on to score 26 for the home side and Geraint Rees added 30. Nick Koomen also scored 14 but it wasn’t enough to see Neyland over the line.

John Mansbridge claimed four wickets for the loss of 32 runs while bowling partner Neil Powling also took four wickets (4-20).

Those wickets derailed Neyland’s charge and when Geraint Rees was trapped leg before for the final wicket, it sparked wild scenes amongst the Saundersfoot players.

Saundersfoot picked up 28 points for the win, while Neyland claimed eight points for their efforts.
