SCARLETS flanker James Davies has apologised for his unsportsmanlike behaviour in Sunday’s (Dec 11) European Rugby Champions Cup clash with RC Toulon.
James Davies said: “I would like to apologise to my teammates, the fans, the Scarlets, my family and the rugby community as a whole for my unforgivable actions on Sunday. During the heat of battle, I lost my composure and said and did things I deeply regret.
“I apologised to referee Mr Garner both during and after the game but would like to re-iterate my sincerest apologies publically.”
A spokesperson for the Scarlets said: “The Scarlets hold the unique values of Rugby Union in the highest regard. Our players are all aware of their responsibility as role models and custodians of those values. We unreservedly condemn any foul or abusive language or actions like those displayed by James Davies on Sunday.
“The Scarlets will comply fully with EPCR Disciplinary procedures as well as conducting an internal investigation under the Scarlets Disciplinary Procedure.”
On Wednesday (Dec 14), it was announced that Davies had been suspended for three weeks by a disciplinary panel after he admitted swearing and making an obscene gesture during the Toulon game.
He will now miss Sunday’s European Challenge Cup match with Toulon and the Welsh derby games against Ospreys and Cardiff Blues.
