David Bulbring: Lineout specialist arrived this week

SCARLETS were delighted this week to announce the signing of South African lock David Bulbring on a long-term contract.

The former Golden Lions captain and Springbok Under 20s international arrives in West Wales today having put pen to paper on a deal that will see him represent the Scarlets until the summer of 2019.

26-year-old Bulbring has a wealth of Currie Cup and Super Rugby experience, having represented the Lions, Southern Kings, Blue Bulls and most recently EP Kings.

Bulbring has established himself as a lineout technician and his arrival this week comes as a welcome boost for the Scarlets with locks unavailable through international call-ups, injuries and suspension.

Commenting on the arrival of Bulbring Jon Daniels, Scarlets General Manager of Rugby, said: “We are delighted that David is joining us. The potency of our backline next season is well documented but it is a strategic priority of our 3-year recruitment plan to ensure we have quality selection choices in all positions.

“David brings a wealth of experience of leading the lineout. He arrives just in time to add a further dimension and competition for selection during a critical time of the season.”

From Port Elizabeth, Bulbring represented Eastern Province at the 2007 U18s Craven Week. His debut for the Golden Lions, in the 2009 Vodacom Cup, resulted in him being called up to the national U20s side for the 2009 IRB Junior World Championship.

Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac added: “We’re delighted to be in a position to welcome David to the Scarlets and being able to utilise his experience for the remainder of the season. Injuries have hampered us in that area of the pack in recent months and having a player of David’s experience and high work rate join us at this all-important period of the PRO12 has a huge significance.”
