CARMARTHEN QUINS had to come from behind to earn their third victory of the Principality Premiership season on Saturday (Sept 22) as they beat Cardiff 19-13.
After an even start it was Cardiff who went ahead as Steffan Jones sent a penalty through the posts on 12 minutes.
Ten minutes later Carmarthen responded in kind as Aled Thomas sent a penalty through the posts to level the scores.
However, just three minutes later Cardiff scored the first try of the game as William Rees-Hole went over with Jones adding the extra two points.
The Quins’ Ed Siggery was then shown a yellow card but despite being a man light they earned another penalty which Thomas goaled and on the stroke of half time he added his third penalty to bring the home side within a point of their opponents.
There was a tense start to the second half as both sides knew the next score would be crucial. It was the home side who got that next score as Thomas sent over his fourth penalty.
Both sides made changes and with just over ten minutes to go the Quins all but sealed the win as Nic Reynolds went over for the try before the reliable Thomas added the extras for a 19-10 lead.
There was still time for Jones to pull Cardiff back into it with a penalty but they were unable to add to that as the Quins saw the game out for a 19-13 win.
On Saturday (Sept 29) Carmarthen Quins are away to Bedwas who are yet to pick up a win this season.
