The course was challenging with some sharp turns in the two laps around City Hall, with a decent size crowd cheering them on.

Harrier Ben Thomas (Ysgol Y Strade) won the under 17 age group. He was coming third but, with 100 metres to go, Ben caught the inside line on the penultimate corner, giving him the opportunity to drive away from the other two England-based athletes for a well deserved win.

Prior to this, Daisy Thompson (Bro Myrddin) won the under 13 girls race. With a fine example of front running, she held off a faster finishing Cardiff athlete for a win by five metres.

Frank Morgan (Bro Myrddin) then followed his victory in the Brianne schools cross race the previous day with a silver medal in the under 13 boys race; Iwan Thomas also ran his best race of the year to gain a silver medal in the boys under 11.

The only bronze medal in the junior races came from Tomos Rees (Dyffryn Aman) in a very fast under 15. Finally, Jake Morgan won a silver medal in the veteran 45 category.

In the Cardiff University Half Marathon main event, involving the strongest elite field ever assembled at this run and a record number of 17,110 runners, Huw Davies was the first Harrier over the line in 1.36.13 and was followed by Liz Davies 2.01.38 and Hayley John 2.09.28.
