Welsh bowlers beat England at Bro Myrddin

ON SATURDAY (Apr 23) Wales played England in a full youth international short mat bowls match at the Bro Myrddin Bowls Stadium in Carmarthen.

Wales emerged as victors beating England 39-25. This was the eighth Under 21’s International and the sixth consecutive win for Wales. The Welsh team captain was Mikey John of Carmarthen who was the only bowler to have played in every Youth International.

The Welsh team was made up of bowlers from: Carmarthen, Swansea, Pembroke, west Glamorgan, Cardigan, Montgomery and Brecon and Radnorshire. The England Captain was Thomas Bright from Wiltshire.

The England bowlers also came from across the country including, Wiltshire, Devon, Dorset, East Sussex, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Humberside, Lancashire, Norfolk, North Yorkshire, Somerset, west Midlands, west Sussex and Worcestershire.

The Welsh team Manager Barry Sambrook said it had been a fantastic tournament, which highlighted the young bowling talent in both Wales and England.

The average age of the Welsh team was only fifteen. The tournament also raised over £50 for Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice. The Welsh team were presented with the Bill Jenkins Trophy.
