THE EAGERLY awaited Centenary Challenge recently took place at Carmarthen Golf Club.

The competition sees 10 players tee off on the first, with the player with worst score dropping out. In the event of a tie, the referee sets a challenge to get nearest the pin – be it a long putt, a chip or bunker shot.

Ed Wheeler, Gwenallt Jones and Aled Thomas reached the eighth, where Jones was eliminated following a bunker shoot out with Wheeler. He then went to beat Thomas, last year’s winner, on the ninth.

The Senior Section held its open day on the Tuesday, July 5, with two sections for the under 67 s, and 68 and over.

The best score of the day was recorded by Ray Heath (39 pts), who was awarded the Jock Millie Cup. Runners up were Dai Elias (39 pts) on count back from Tim Harries.

The 68 and over section was won by Ken James (38pts) with Gary Thomas and Peter Ashley-Jones runners up.

On a wet day, the W.L. Davies Three was won by Huw Michael with 39 points. The cup is awarded to the player with the two score in the three rounds and Ray Heath continued his good form to take the title.

The Knight’s Brenys Cup was won by Nick Ingram, with an excellent score of 41 pts, followed by Kristen Harries on 39pts and Peter Ashley Jones with 38pts.
