On the ball: Goal scorer Will Haworth looks to keep possession against Villa

MERLINS BRIDGE eased through to the semi-finals of the Senior Cup with a 4-0 win over Prendergast Villa on Saturday (Jan 21).

Joe Leahy scored a hat-trick to help his side through and the win sets up a mouth-watering semi-final tie against rivals Hakin United.

The Wizards started the game well and came close to scoring as Leahy crossed into the box for Jordan Raymond, but his shot was pushed wide by the Villa keeper.

The home side opened the scoring when Leahy drilled a low shot in from a tight angle with 20 minutes of the game gone.

Villa battled throughout the game but were unable to break their opponents down and at half time, the score remained 1-0.

It was 2-0 15 minutes into the second half as Leahy controlled the ball well on the edge of the box before firing an excellent shot into the top right hand corner of the net.

Will Haworth then got his name on the score sheet as he tapped the ball in after a scramble in the box.

The result was put beyond any doubt with five minutes to go when Leahy was brought down in the box. After picking himself up, Leahy stroked the penalty home to make it 4-0.

The win takes them into the semi-finals where they will face Hakin on February 22.

For now, they will return to league action and having been knocked off the top, they will be keen to get another win when they take on Narberth away on Saturday (Jan 28).
