Crash victim named as local student [UPDATED]

THE MAN who died in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A485 on Monday (May 15) has been named as Mathew Evans, a local student.

The crash closed an eight  mile stretch of the A485 for several hours as emergency services attended the scene.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: “At approx. 3.15pm this afternoon a two vehicle RTC occurred on the A485 in Pontarsais, between Rhydargaeau and Alltwalis. Vehicles involved were a lorry and a car.

“Tragically, the driver of the car sustained fatal injuries.

“The road is closed from Glangwili roundabout to Windy Corner garage, and will be until further notice. ”

A spokesperson for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call from the police at 3.22pm this afternoon, alerting us to a collision between a large goods vehicle and a car on the A485.

”We sent two crews from Carmarthen to the scene and they were involved in making a vehicle safe and assisting police.

“Both crews remain in attendance but have made themselves available for other calls.

“Police and ambulance are also at the scene.”
