‘Sorely missed by everyone’: Mayor Alex Williams’ tribute to town clerk

Tributes have been paid to Miriam Phillips, the clerk to Ammanford Town Council, who passed away last Friday evening (Aug 26).

Mrs Phillips had served in post for 22 years.

Cllr Deian Harries said: “Miriam was a fantastic lady who put Ammanford first.

“The news of her sudden passing is devastating and she will be sorely missed by everyone on the Town Council.

“She loved Ammanford and was the instigator of many features in the town, including the splash pads – they were her baby.

“On behalf of the Town Council, we are all sending our condolences to the whole family during this sad time.”

Close friend and Councillor Irena Hopkins said: “She was a terrific support to the council and to councillors. She was a brilliant Town Clerk; she did so much for the community and organising events which included getting the splash pads in the park and getting the Eisteddfod to Ammanford.

“She was passionate about so many things. We are devastated at her passing and send our sincere condolences to her family.”
