Ben Smith, 401 marathon runner, arrives in Carmarthenshire tomorrow

Ben thumbs up Cornwall RUNNER Ben Smith, 34, arrives in Carmarthenshire tomorrow (Aug 31) as part of The 401 Challenge – running the equivalent of 401 marathons in 401 days.

Ben is aiming to raise £250,000 for anti-bulling charities Kidscape and Stonewall. Ben, from Portishead, near Bristol, began the 401 challenge on September 1 last year to raise awareness of anti-bullying in response to his own experiences growing up.

He also visits schools to talk about anti-bullying.

Ben is running in Carmarthen tomorrow (Aug 31) which will be marathon 366, supported by local running club TROTs (Taf Running and Orienteering Team).

On Thursday (Sep 1) he will be running in Llanelli, which wil be marathon 367, supported by local running club Sospan Road Runners.

This will be Ben’s second visit to Wales, which represents an 18 day stretch from August 19 to September 5. Last November he ran four marathons in Newport, Swansea and Cardiff.

As  of today (Aug 30):

– Ben has run with 8,135 people, 440 of which are first time marathon runners.
– He has currently run 9,379 miles, and has a target mileage of 10,506.
– He has made 87 school visits across the UK to spread the message about anti-bullying.
– So far, he has worked his way through 20 pairs of trainers!
