INDIVIDIALS, groups, businesses and organisations within Ceredigion still have time to submit innovative ideas to support their local rural communities. Expressions of Interests (EOIs) for LEADER project ideas are still welcome until Monday (Oct 17).
LEADER, which aims to support innovative responses to opportunities or challenges faced by rural communities, is supported through Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
The Cynnal y Cardi Local Action Group (LAG), which is administered by Ceredigion County Council, has secured £3 million for delivering innovative rural initiatives through the Cynnal y Cardi Local Development Strategy in Ceredigion until 2020. Ideas supporting pilot projects, feasibility studies, facilitation, training, mentoring, consultation and project development are all welcome.
Councillor Gareth Lloyd, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economic and Community Development Services, Ceredigion County Council said: “This is a great opportunity for people to come forward with their ideas, helping us to help them improve quality of life and playing an integral role in sustaining our rural economy.”
John Davies, Chair of the Cynnal y Cardi LAG said: “We are always looking for appropriate, relevant and innovative projects that will make a real difference to our rural communities.”
Since April this year the Cynnal y Cardi LAG has supported a number of community led projects including Ceredigion County Council’s Play and Recreation in Rural Ceredigion (PARRC). Over the summer months, the project saw four community councils across the county; Llanddewi Brefi, Llanon, Cardigan and Ponterwyd joining forces, consulting with young people with the aim to improve play and leisure facilities.
Cathryn Morgan, Families First Co-ordinator said:“People in these communities had ideas about ways to improve their play and leisure facilities but they needed to check these out with more people who lived there. Cynnal y Cardi supported free play sessions for consultations, making them fun community events. Action plans were then developed with the community to support more funding bids so that their ideas can become reality.”
