Cameron Comey death inquest highlights danger of rivers

JS57181940JPGAN INQUEST into the tragic death of Cameron Comey, whose body has never been found after he went missing in a Carmarthen river, has highlighted the dangers of playing near swollen rivers.

The inquest was held in Milford Haven today (Jun 30th) by area coroner, Gareth Lewis.

Cameron went missing on February 17, 2015 after playing with his brother near the River Towy. He was last spotted around 2:45pm.

A full scale search was launched after his brother returned home 45 minutes later without his brother, who told his family that Cameron fell into the river near a bend known as the 22.

The search lasted for several months, which saw the coastguard, police, fire service and volunteers cover miles of the river.

Mr Lewis said: “This is a truly awful case, which highlights the dangers of playing near rivers, especially when they are swollen from rain. It has left a loving family totally devastated. It is very sad.”

The inquest concluded that the death of Cameron was an accident and Mr Lewis also extended his sympathies to Cameron’s loved ones.
