THERE was a heavy police response in Cardigan this morning (Jan 27) after police received a 999 call to say that the Spar convenience store was being robbed.

Police have confirmed that there were no injuries as a result of the incident, which resulted in an undisclosed amount of cash being stolen from the North Road store.

The authorities were quick to act, and have confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested and is already in police custody.

A police spokesman told The Herald: “Police are investigating an allegation of robbery which occurred at approximately 9.25am this morning in the SPAR, Cardigan. A sum of money was stolen during the incident. No-one was injured.

The spokesman added: “A male has been arrested by police and currently remains in police custody.”

Police said extra patrols would be carried out in the area to reassure the public, and made an appeal for more information.

The police said earlier that robber was  roughly 5ft 11in (1.8m) tall and of skinny build. He was wearing grey Adidas jogging bottoms, a black hoody with a yellow logo across the chest and had his faced covered with a balaclava.
