STORM JONAS has hit Wales, bringing with it torrential rain and gale force winds.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) have been trying to fix the damage caused by a fallen tree in Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, which has cut off power from hundreds of homes in west Wales today.

Engineers have managed to restore power to most of the houses, and are in the process of fixing the line so that the remaining 124 houses can have all power returned by approximately 5pm.

Police and fire crews in Haverfordwest closed the A40 for a time while they dealt with damage to the Texaco petrol station forecourt shelter near Vincent Davies department store.

Another tree was uprooted by the wind in St Florence, near Tenby, which fell onto power lines at 1:08pm and temporarily cut off power to 289 homes in the area.

WPD have since been working on the issue, clearing debris and repairing overhead cables.  Power was returned to 247 houses almost immediately, and is expected to be restored to all houses by 6pm today.

WPD released a statement saying: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
