Cardigan: Defendant ‘couldn’t afford’ to attend Crown Court

Aaron Hopkins
Aaron Neil Hopkins, aged 21, of Castle Street, had been due to attend a plea and case management hearing at Swansea Crown Court before Judge Paul Thomas on Friday (Oct 9).
But his barrister, Ian Ibrahim, said he could not afford the journey.
Hopkins is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Daniel MacDonald on 22 November.
Nicola Powell said the prosecution would not accept a plea on the basis of only punching Mr MacDonald when the prosecution’s case was that he also “ran at him and kicked him in the head like a football.”
Judge Thomas adjourned the hearing for seven days but warned Hopkins that if he again failed to attend a warrant would be issued.
