Carmarthen: Police evacuate homes due to ‘gun wielding’ suspect

DYFED-POWYS POLICE have sealed off a large section of Carmarthen town centre after reports of a male suspect with a gun. Lammas Street, Catherine Street and Water Street are cordoned off. There are eight police vehicles at the scene as well as a fire engine. Some of the police are reported to be armed.

A witness told this newspaper that some of the officers had helmets and shields.

A police spokesperson told The Carmarthenshire Herald: “We are currently dealing with a disturbance at Water Street, Carmarthen.

“Specially trained officers are at the scene to manage the situation.

“The street has been closed and around 30 houses are being evacuated to the leisure centre as a precaution. We are working with Carmarthenshire County Council to do this as smoothly as possible.

“We are asking people to keep away from the area to let officers concentrate on bringing the incident to a conclusion as quickly as possible.”
