Dark Web purchase: A Glock 21

A CARMARTHEN woman tried to buy a Glock automatic pistol after writing that she wanted to kill as many people as possible.

Megan Schadeberg placed an order for the gun and ammunition after accessing the “dark side” of the world wide web.

After her arrest police found she had books about mass killings and had written on some pages, “that sounds like me.”

And in her diary there were entries reading, “I want to kill everyone. I imagine blowing their brains out. That does not scare me. I revel in it.”

On Friday (Mar 18), Schadeberg, aged 19, admitted attempting to purchase a Glock G21 pistol.

Swansea crown court heard she was suffering from a mental illness that had not yet been identified and Judge Paul Thomas ordered her detention under the 1983 Mental Health Act without limit of time.

Nicola Powell, prosecuting, said her attempt to buy the gun had been a serious one.

She had paid into an account to buy bitcoins, a currency used on the internet, and with £3,000 in her bank account had the means to do so.

Schadeberg had also accessed websites explaining how to obtain a gun.

Miss Powell said the offending came to light when Schadeberg told her psychotherapist she wanted to kill her family and then herself.

Her barrister, Craig Jones, described her actions as a “cry for help” but accepted that the outcome could have been catastrophic.

Judge Thomas said it was an extremely sad case but it was also a worrying one.

He said his main concern had to be the safety of the public.

Under the order Schadeberg, of no fixed address, will not be released until she is deemed to be no longer a danger.
