A PLANNED consultation to close Tremoilet and Llanmiloe Schools and create a larger school on the site of Laugharne VC has been deferred until the end of June to allow the time to gather more information and hold talks with the community.

The Education and Children Scrutiny Committee had originally passed this to the Executive with the recommendation that the consultation should begin.

However, Executive Member for Education Cllr Gareth Jones said that the committee had been ‘somewhat unfair’ to these schools, given that in the cases of other schools discussed it was recommended that further visits and reports were made.

Local County Councillor Jane Tremlett said that there were ‘very concerned parents’ from Llanmiloe and Tremoilet Schools, some of whom attended the meeting.  She asked that council officers visit the schools to have a conversation about the proposed closures, something that she pointed out had not yet happened.
